The Sketch Comedy Lab - On Zoom (limited spots)
October 7, 14, 21 & 28 - 2026
7:00-9:00PM ET
Sketch comedy has a specific architecture, and learning it will sharpen every kind of writing you do. Over four weeks, we’ll break down the formulas professional comedy writers use to build original characters, sharp dialogue and hilarious situations from scratch.
Each session we’ll review popular comedy sketches and hold interactive table reads where your classmates perform your work on screen! By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a polished, stage-ready comedic sketch and a set of comedy writing tools you can apply to fiction, essays, plays, and screenplays. No prior comedy experience required.
- Finding the Premise: How to brainstorm unique, relatable concepts out of everyday observations.
- Character Development: Crafting oversized, specific characters that actors love to play.
- The Art of the Rewrite: Trimming the fat, punching up jokes, and finding the perfect blackout line.
